ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio senior captain Ethan Newton was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Tuesday following his performance this past week.
Newton earned the award after he helped the Bobcats to a pair of wins over Ball State. In four games last week, Newton batted .526, going 10-for-19 with four runs scored and three RBI, hitting out of the leadoff spot.
He also extended his hitting streak to a season-best 13 games. In addition, Newton had six steals on the week.
Newton becomes the fifth player this season to be honored by the league office, joining teammates Kyle Dean, Jensen Painter, Sean Kennedy and Cody Gaertner.
Ohio steps back into league play on Friday as it opens up a three-game series against Buffalo at Bob Wren Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
