ATHENS, Ohio -
The Ohio University baseball team has cancelled Wednesday's game versus West Virginia due to rain this morning and more rain in the forecast for the afternoon, head coach Joe Carbone announced. The game was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium and will not be made up.
The Bobcats have now had 11 games cancelled this season (all against non-conference opponents) due to inclement weather, including their last four mid-week games. Yesterday's (April 21) scheduled contest at Marshall was rained out, while games last Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14 and 15, versus Marshall and Pittsburgh were also washed out. Ohio had just one cancellation in 2008, but had 10 games scratched in 2006.
The Bobcats (19-14, 12-3 Mid-American Conference) return to Bob Wren Stadium this weekend to host a key three-game series against MAC East-rival Kent State (28-8, 11-3 MAC), who is ranked 25th in two polls this week. Ohio rests in first place in the MAC overall and in the East Division, while Kent State is in second, just a half game back.
The series gets under way Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m. ET, while Saturday's first pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET and Sunday's series finale is slated for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available via Gametracker for all three games this weekend on OhioBobcats.com and the games will also be broadcast on WATH 970 AM in Athens and streamed live on OhioBobcats.com. The "Voice of the Bobcats" Russ Eisenstein and Brian Boesch will call all the action this weekend, with pre-game coverage starting 15 minutes prior to first pitch each day.
