ATHENS, Ohio - Freshman left fielder Tyler Wells and junior captain Seth Streich were named Mid-American Conference East Division Player and Pitcher of the Week on Monday after helping the Ohio University baseball team to a perfect 4-0 record this past week.
Wells (Lexington, Ky.) earned the weekly honor after he batted .429, going 6-fo-14 with one home run and four RBI in four games this week. He also scored a team-best six runs and posted a team-best slugging percentage of .579.
Streich received the MAC East's top pitching honor after he authored his best performance on the year this past Sunday to help the Bobcats complete their series sweep against Buffalo. Streich worked a complete game and struck out 10 as he helped Ohio to a 4-1 victory.
The Ohio right hander threw over 120 pitches and kept the MAC's top offensive team in check as he scattered just four hits and did not allow a run. Streich's 10 strikeout performance marked just the second time this season in which he has thrown 10-or-more strikes.
Ohio has won seven MAC weekly awards this season. Wells and Streich join teammates Kyle Dean (Athens, Ohio), Jensen Painter (Willshire, Ohio), Sean Kennedy (Columbus, Ohio), Ethan Newton (Norfolk, Va.) and Cody Gaertner (Allison Park, Pa.) who have won weekly honors this year.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday as they head to Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
