ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University junior shortstop Garrett Black was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday by the league office.
Black (Lima, Ohio) earned the award after he guided the Bobcats to a 2-1 series victory over the University of Buffalo this past weekend at Bob Wren Stadium.
Over the course of the three-game series with the Bulls, Black was a one-man wrecking crew as he batted .571, drove in four runs, scored five runs and had a pair of doubles.
In addition, Black collected a hit in every game to extend his season-best hitting streak to nine games. Following the weekend series, Black raised his batting average 41 points and is now batting .254 on the year.
Ohio returns to action on Wednesday as it welcomes the University of Pittsburgh to Bob Wren Stadium. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
