ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio junior outfielders Gauntlett Eldemire and Robert Maddox III were both named first team All-Mid-American Conference Tuesday evening by virtue of a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.
Eldemire finished first in the league in on-base percentage (.487), third in slugging percentage (.714), fourth in batting average (.391) and home runs (15), sixth in stolen bases (16) and tied for sixth in stolen bases (137).
Maddox was the league’s leader in home runs (20), total bases (168) and slugging percentage (.737), was second in runs batted in (76), fourth in hits (86), tied for fourth in doubles (20) and 10th in batting average (.377).
Both guys had monster weeks against Buffalo, with Eldemire hitting .700 with one double, seven homers, 11 RBIs and 36 total bases to earn National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball. He also slugged 1.800, had an on-base percentage of .769 and went errorless in his 14 chances in the field. His biggest performance came on the Saturday contest against the Bulls when he went 5-for-5 with three homers, four runs scored and six RBIs. Maddox followed with an equally eye-popping showing on Sunday, blasting three homers himself on his way to seven RBIs to help secure the sweep for the Bobcats.
The eighth-seeded Bobcats will face top-seeded Central Michigan Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. ET in first round action at the Mid-American Conference Tournament (double elimination) at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
