20 Bobcats to Play in Summer Leagues
 

 
 
 

 
Gauntlett Eldemire will be one of the four Bobcats staying in Athens to play for the Southern Ohio Copperheads this summers.

ATHENS, Ohio - A total of 20 members of the Ohio baseball team will be competing in summer leagues around the country this season, with four Bobcats staying in Athens to play with the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Collegiate League.

 

Pitchers Zach Fairbanks and Joe Stover, along with second baseman Zach Keen and outfielder Gauntlett Eldemire will be on the Copperheads' roster this summer.

 

The GLCL is made up of 10 teams from Ohio and one team from Indiana and 17 current Bobcats will be spread amongst seven different teams, including four on the Columbus All-Americans. Catcher Chris Klimko, infielder Hayden Johnston, first baseman Robert Maddox III and pitcher Kevin Mementowski will all be calling Ohio State's Cooper Stadium home for the summer months.


 

 

 

Other teams in the GLCL featuring Bobcat players on its rosters are the Cincinnati Steam (Brandon Besl and Kurt Smith), the Grand Lake Mariners (Adam Gecewich and Adam Goodpasture), the Licking County Settlers (Jerod Yakubik), the Lima Locos (Zach Elmer) and the Stark County Terriers (Matt Schlarb and Mike Babin).

 

The Copperheads begin their season on June 20 against the Xenia Athletes in Action with a 7:30 p.m. first-pitch at Bob Wren Stadium. The Copperheads' 2008 schedule can be viewed HERE.

 

In addition to the GLCL, Bobcats will be featured on rosters in three other leagues this summer.

 

Junior-to-be Marc Krauss will play for Bourne Braves in the prestigious Cape Cod League. 

Chris Rigo will be playing for the Winchester Royals in the Shenandoah Valley Collegiate League this summer. The Bobcat starting pitcher and the Royals will play a 44-game schedule against teams throughout Virginia.

 

The Tri-State Collegiate League's Washington Blue Sox is where Jeremie Rehak and Kris McDonough will compete this fall. The TSCL began play on June 9 with the Blue Sox defeating the Allegheny Athletics 6-2 in the league opener. The Blue Sox play its home games at two different stadiums that sit just a block apart from one another. The first, Consol Energy Park, is the home of the Washington Wild Things professional team while the second stadium is the home ballpark of Washington and Jefferson College.
