ATHENS, Ohio - Former Ohio University baseball catcher J.R. Reynolds was signed to a Major League Baseball contract earlier this summer by the Cincinnati Reds. He is currently playing in the Reds' Arizona Rookie League.
Reynolds (Cincinnati, Ohio) signed with the Reds after serving as a key reserve catcher for the Bobcats and one of the team's leaders both on and off the field. During his career at Ohio, he appeared in over 60 games throughout his career.
As a senior, Reynolds saw action in 22 games and made a career-best 13 starts. He has also posted career-highs in runs and walks.
Currently, Reynolds has logged eight at bats and has collected four hits, one home run, one RBI and is batting .500 in the Reds' Arizona Rookie League.
Earlier this week, Reynolds was named Mid-American Conference Academic Honorable Mention after he posted a 3.890 GPA in coaching education.
