ATHENS, Ohio -

Four Ohio Bobcats were honored by the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League with the announcement of the all-league teams. The quartet earned the award by playing in the wooden-bat summer league during their offseason.

Infielder Brandon Besl (Cincinnati, Ohio) was the lone Bobcat named to the All-GLSCL First Team, while fellow teammates Adam Goodpasture (Columbus, Ohio), Hayden Johnston (Strattanville, Pa.) and Robert Maddox III (Euclid, Ohio) garnered second-team accolades.

Besl started 37 games at first base for the GLSCL Tournament champion Cincinnati Steam, where he batted .289 with 37 hits, four home runs and 30 RBIs en route to his first-team selection. The rising senior also scored 23 runs and had a .461 slugging percentage. Besl was a second-team All-Mid-American Conference recipient in 2008.

Goodpasture, a rising senior, made 15 relief appearances for the Grand Lake Mariners, pitching 24.2 innings and allowing only one earned run for an ERA of 0.36, tops in the league for any pitcher pitching at least 15 innings. The left-hander went 2-1, grabbing two saves, while racking up 16 strikeouts.

Johnston, also a rising senior, and Maddox III, a rising sophomore, joined Goodpasture on the second-team and were teammates on the tournament runner-up Columbus All-Americans. Johnston started 32 games in the outfield and hit .297, with 38 hits, 23 RBIs and three home runs. Maddox III started 29 games at first base, and finished with a .301 batting average, swinging for 31 hits and scoring 20 runs.

All four Bobcats return to anchor an Ohio team that earned a spot in the 2008 MAC Tournament, its first appearance in the tournament since 2003.
