Five Former Bobcats Playing Professional Baseball

Five former Bobcat baseball players are making a career playing America's pastime in either Major League Baseball or in the Minor Leagues. Below is a brief bio of each player with links to their teams' Web sites and their statistics.

Adam Fox (2001-2003), 3B, Oklahoma RedHawks (Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers)

Fox was drafted in the 10th round of the June 2003 draft by the Rangers. The St. Mary's, Pa. native is in his sixth season of professional baseball, and has played for both the Double-AA Frisco RoughRiders and the RedHawks in 2008.

Anthony Gressick (2003-2006), OF, Dayton Dragons (Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds)

Gressick was drafted in the 26th round of the June 2006 draft by the Reds. The Lancaster, Ohio native is in his third season in the Minor Leagues. At Ohio, Gressick was a pitcher and also pitched his first two seasons in the minors, but switched to the outfield in 2008. The former Bobcat has played for both the Advanced-A Sarasota Reds and the Dragons this season.

Adam Russell (2002-2004), RP, Chicago White Sox

Russell was drafted in the sixth round of the June 2004 draft by the White Sox. The North Olmsted, Ohio native is in his first season in the Major Leagues, after playing four and a half seasons in the Minor Leagues. Russell was called up from the Triple-A Charlotte Knights on June 13, 2008 and made his Major League debut June 17 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 20 games with the White Sox, the right-handed reliever is 4-0 with a 4.81 ERA in 24.1 innings pitched, and has allowed 13 runs, while striking out 22 batters and walking nine.

Matt Stiffler (2005-2008), CF, Billings Mustangs (Rookie affliliate of the Cincinnati Reds)

Stiffler was drafted in the 27th round of the June 2008 draft by the Reds. The Bellbrook, Ohio native is in his first season of professional baseball, playing for the Mustangs of the Rookie Pioneer League.

Derek Witt (2003-2006), RP, Lakeland Flying Tigers (Advanced-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers)

Witt was drafted in the 28th round of the June 2006 draft by the Tigers. The Powell, Ohio native is in his third season of professional baseball, and has played for both the Double-A Erie SeaWolves and the Flying Tigers in 2008. The right-handed reliever was called up to the SeaWolves on Aug. 13 for a brief stint with the Tigers' Double-A affiliate, where he pitched an inning of work, allowed no runs, one hit and fanned a batter.
