ATHENS, Ohio -

The Ohio baseball team will play its annual Green and White Series at Bob Wren Stadium this weekend to wrap-up the fall season. Game one is set for Friday at 4:30 p.m., with game two scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. The series finale will be contested Sunday at approximately 2 p.m. and be preceded by Scout Day.

"We've been very pleased with the way fall practice has been going," Ohio head coach Joe Carbone said. "This series is a wrap-up, so a lot of the players that are looking very good want to have a good showing in front of professional scouts, so hopefully they get an opportunity to go out and play professional baseball. We're trying to get a sense of who our starting players are and who our starting pitchers and relievers are, so this is like the final test of the fall."

The first two games in the series will be six-inning affairs, with the finale set for a nine-inning game. Prior to game three Sunday, Ohio players will work out for Major League scouts starting at 1 p.m. with a 60-yard dash, batting practice and infield.

Friday's scrimmage will feature Ryan Burgett (Springboro, Ohio), Brent Choban (Rittman, Ohio) and Jerod Yakubik (Byesville, Ohio) pitching for the Green team, while newcomers Michael Dillon (Bel Air, Md.) and Nick Egan (Wheaton, Ill.) will take the mound for the White team. Saturday Ben Trimbur (New Albany, Ohio) and Mike Sweigert (Mentor, Ohio) will see time on the hill for Green, with Bryce Butt (Omaha, Neb.) and Zach Fairbanks (Martins Ferry, Ohio) throwing for White. In the series finale, seniors Zach Elmer (Delaware, Ohio), who had a 3.93 ERA in 14 starts last season, Mike Babin (Medina, Ohio) and Adam Goodpasture (Columbus, Ohio) will pitch for the Green team, while fellow seniors Kevin Mementowski (Parma, Ohio), Matt Schlarb (Lexington, Ohio) and Joe Stover (Shorewood, Ill.) will throw for the White squad.

The White team will be led offensively by junior Marc Krauss (Deshler, Ohio), who was named 2007 MAC Freshman of the Year and is a two-time All-MAC First Team selection. Senior Brandon Besl (Cincinnati, Ohio), a 2008 All-MAC Second Team honoree, will pace the Green team.

The Bobcats enter the 2008-2009 season coming off a campaign in which they finished 29-30 (14-13 MAC) and earned their first birth in the Mid-American Conference Tournament since 2003, making it all the way to the semifinals.

The Green & White Series is open to the public and admission to Bob Wren Stadium is free all weekend. The Green team captured last year's Green & White Series, 2-1.
