ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University baseball head coach Joe Carbone announced today that senior outfielder Ethan Newton and junior pitcher/infielder Seth Streich have been selected as team captains for the 2012 season, in a vote conducted among their teammates.

Newton (Norfolk, Va.) started in every game last season for the Bobcats and led team in six offensive categories, including batting average (.330) and stolen bases (20).

Streich (Ridgeway, Pa.) appeared in 46 games as a sophomore where he recorded a .273 batting average. He also threw a team-best 96.2 innings while recording three wins to go along with a 4.00 earned run average.

In addition, both players have been targeted as strong prospects for the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft.

The Bobcats start practice next week and open the 2012 season on February 17 as they travel to UNC-Wilmington for a three-game series beginning at 4 p.m.
