Fuss Promoted to Assistant Coach, Cunningham Named DBO

Ohio continues to shape coaching staff

A member of the Ohio coaching staff since 2008, Aaron Fuss was promoted to assistant coach by head coach Jim Christian during the spring of 2012.

No stranger to success, Fuss has been a part of five championship teams over his past seven seasons working with a college basketball program.

In his inaugural year as an assistant coach for Ohio in 2012-13, Fuss helped lead the Bobcats to their first MAC regular season championship in 19 years and a berth in the NIT for the first time since 1995. The Bobcats won 14 conference games and tied a school record with seven conference road wins.

Working closely with the Bobcats' low post players, Fuss was integral in the development of senior Reggie Keely into an All-MAC player. Under Fuss' tutelage, Keely averaged a career best 12.1 points per game in 2012-13 and ranked second on the team with 13.6 ppg in conference play. Keely shot 60.6 percent from the field, a significant increase from his three-year average (.490) entering the season.

Fuss excelled for the Bobcats on the recruiting trail in his first season as an assistant coach, bringing in current Ohio freshmen D.J. Wingfield and Antonio Campbell.

Prior to his current position, Fuss served as the director of basketball operations for the Bobcats. In that role, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Ohio program, including scheduling, on-campus recruiting, academic monitoring and video coordination. Fuss was also on the staff for both the 2010 and 2012 seasons, which culminated in Mid-American Conference Championships.

Fuss got his start at The Ohio State University in 2001 as a manager under former head coach Jim O'Brien, attending all practices and games and assisting with summer camps.

By the 2004-05 season, the first with current Buckeyes' head coach Thad Matta, Fuss worked his way up to head manager. During Fuss' tenure in Columbus, Matta's impressive staff included current Illinois head coach John Groce and Charlotte head coach Alan Major.

The 2005-06 campaign saw Fuss move up to the graduate assistant level at Ohio State. In addition to coordinating the Buckeyes' film exchange and overseeing their 10 student managers, Fuss worked closely with the team's director of basketball operations to arrange all aspects of team travel. He also had a role in managing clinics, special events and summer camps.

Fuss' final year on the OSU staff was spent in the dual role of graduate assistant and assistant video coordinator. He assisted in Ohio State's run to the NCAA title game by writing advanced scouts of each opponent, which the coaching staff used to develop game strategy. During that season, Fuss also assisted the coaching staff with all aspects of recruiting, including hosting campus visits and preparing facilities.

An all-county selection as a senior at Watkins Memorial, Fuss earned a B.S. in agricultural education/agri-business from Ohio State in 2005, as well as an M.A. in sport management in 2007.

He was married to the former Jill Samples in the spring of 2009. The couple resides in Athens with their daughter, Emma.
