A member of the Ohio coaching staff since 2009, Aaron Fuss was promoted to assistant coach by current head coach Jim Christian during the spring of 2012.
Prior to his current position, Fuss served as the Director of Basketball Operations. He oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Bobcat program, including scheduling, on-campus recruiting, academic monitoring and video coordination. Fuss was also on the staff for both the 2010 and 2012 seasons, which culminated in Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Pataskala, Ohio, native came to Athens after serving as an assistant varsity basketball coach at Watkins Memorial High School in his home town. While at Watkins, Fuss served as the director of opponent scouting, which entailed coordinating live scouts, breaking down film and developing individual game strategies. He also led in and offseason skill-instruction sessions, created and implemented all out-of-bounds plays and assisted in the formation of daily practice plans.
In addition to his duties at WMHS, Fuss also concurrently served as head coach of the Columbus Hawks, a U-14 AAU team based in Columbus. In 2008, the Hawks won their second-straight USSSA state title and took runner-up honors at the state AAU tournament. During his time on the sidelines, Fuss also developed several players in the class of 2012 into state-ranked talents, while also operating his own skills camps in the Columbus area.
Fuss got his start at OSU in 2001 as a manager under former head coach Jim O'Brien, attending all practices and games and assisting with summer camps. By the 2004-05 season, the first with current Buckeyes' head coach Thad Matta and Groce on the bench, Fuss worked his way up to head manager.
The 2005-06 campaign saw Fuss move up to the graduate assistant level at Ohio State. In addition to coordinating the Buckeyes' film exchange and overseeing their 10 student managers, Fuss worked closely with the team's Director of Basketball Operations to arrange all aspects of team travel. He also had a role in managing clinics, special events and summer camps.
Fuss' final year on the OSU staff was spent in the dual role of graduate assistant and assistant video coordinator. He assisted in Ohio State's run to the NCAA title game by writing advanced scouts of each opponent, which the coaching staff used to develop game strategy. During that season, Fuss also assisted the coaching staff with all aspects of recruiting, including hosting campus visits and preparing facilities.
An all-county selection as a senior at Watkins Memorial, Fuss earned a B.S. in agricultural education/agri-business from Ohio State in 2005, as well as an M.A. in sport management in 2007. He was married to the former Jill Samples in the spring of 2009.
