Prior to Ohio: Belton played in 21 games during the 2007-08 season for Cincinnati, averaging 1.6 points and 1.0 rebounds per game as a reserve forward. He posted a career-high eight points and four offensive rebounds at Notre Dame and added another seven points and a career-high five rebounds, including two offensive, the next game vs. Connecticut. In high school, Belton earned all-state honors in 2006-07 helping Dudley to a second straight appearance in the North Carolina state semifinals. He averaged 18.5 points and 8.6 rebounds as a senior and was a key in Dudley's 2005-06 season as the Panthers posted a 26-4 record and claimed the state Class 3A title. Belton earned the tournament's Eastern Regional Most Valuable Player after posting 14.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a junior. He went on to participate in the NBA Player Camp and the adidas Super Star Camp during high school, playing summer ball with DC Assault.
