Jim Christian - Head Coach
"(Richaun) Holmes got every rebound he wanted to get down there. It wasn't hard. You have to have the effort and heart to do it and we didn't do it. We have not done it. We have had an issue with rebounding for three or four games. Good players take advantage of it and that is what Holmes did."
On the jump-ball call at the end of the game:
"I didn't see it. Ask the officials. I wouldn't comment on it even if I had an opinion.
On the team's last possession:
"It's a screen play we run for Kellogg. I have to look at it, but it looked like they both ran out at him. So, if that happens, we would hit Maurice with a pass. I don't know if he was open or not. I'll have to look at the tape. Those situations are tough. It was good defense by them, but it was our late-game execution defensively that was bad, especially on ball screens. We played awful against the zone the entire night. All the concepts that we teach and work on, we didn't do any of them. We were just bad in all areas of zone offense, and we're just going to have to get much better."
On this year's MAC play:
"It's not different in any other league. You've got to respect everybody. You've got to play 40-minute games, and we didn't do that tonight. We talked about it, as a team, before the game. The score doesn't mean anything to Bowling Green. You can go up 13, down 13; they keep playing. They just kept coming at us. They got the ball on top of the basket. We did an awful job keeping (Richaun) Holmes off the backboard. Everything that we emphasized in this game, we didn't do. We let the point guard get in the paint the entire night. We did an awful job. That's on me. It's one thing to talk about it. It's one thing to practice it, and if we can't do it, it's on me. We knew what we needed to do, and we didn't do it. So, that's my responsibility. It's not one play. It's not one play at the end of the game. It's not one call. It's 40 minutes of us not doing what we're supposed to be doing out there, not for more than three minutes at a time."
Stevie Taylor - Point Guard
On Issues with zone offense:
"We got stagnant. We have to get the ball in the middle and attack the zone. They were playing pretty high. We did not execute well and we were not cutting hard enough. That is on us. Coach may say that is on him but at the same time the team has to take the responsibility at some point and I think it starts with me. If we got the ball in the middle we could have seen what would have happened, but we didn't and we lost."
On moving forward:
"I think it's in our control. We control a lot of the stuff that happens out there so the game doesn't dictate how we play. So if we are not coming out and doing what we need to do early on it is going to show and teams are going to hang around, and we are going to get bit like we did tonight. We have to learn from this. This is going to hurt tonight but tomorrow we have to come to practice ready to work because Eastern Michigan--they don't care. They don't care about how we feel about this loss. So we've got a tough road game on Saturday that we have to really, really prepare for to get a win."
On Bowling Green's zone defense:
"I think it was just on us and our execution. We didn't get the ball in the spots that we needed to get the ball. I don't think we attacked when we needed to attack. First off, I think my play down the stretch was the reason why our team was in a bad situation. I haven't been pleased with my play at all. So, I take full responsibility for what happened out there tonight. It shouldn't have got down to that late, last-second shot. So, I take full responsibility for that."
