Recap |  Final Stats |  Photo Gallery

Ohio Head Coach Tim O'Shea

Opening statement:

We've got to get better at the free throw line.  I think it cost us a real chance to win the Northern Illinois game.  It's fortunate tonight that it didn't cost us the ball game.

On the youthfulness of the team:

We can harness some of that youthful exuberance and get a little more fundamentally sound.  Then we can continue to play the defense we are playing.

On Johnnie Jackson:

I really believed in the kid.  He was really slow out of the gate, and now he seems to be fine in his stride."

On the team:

I don't think the idea of losing ever enters their mind.  They're always thinking about how to win the game.

They seem to find a way to win these close games.

On Jeremy Fears:

He's only a sophomore, and he's got to stay hungry.  If he stays hungry he will be really good... Tonight he played as hard as I've ever seen him play defensively.

On the bench:

Our bench has been tremendous.  It really has been the backbone and strength of this team so far.

Ohio sophomore Jeremy Fears

On the end of the game:

Basketball is a game of runs...We know down the stretch we were going to have to make some big shots.

On why he didn't start:

I was hurt, I didn't know if I was going to play.

On the Ozone:

The Ozone helped us through the night, we feed of that.

Ohio sophomore Leon Williams:

On last years game vs. this years:

I think we're more experienced and now we know what to do...I wasn't worried.

We used it (last year) as motivation.

Ohio freshman Jerome Tillman:

On game energy:

I live for big games.

I'm always the one in the huddle saying, `let's go, let's go, let's go.'

I'm the energetic one.

Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot

Opening statement:

Well that was probably the most intense I've seen them play against us.

On the game atmosphere:

We couldn't call any plays because it was so damn loud in there.

On Ohio's players off the bench:

Whitney Davis is the toughest kid they got to me and Jackson had his best game of the year.

Akron's play during the game:

We didn't get the ball to Rome (Travis) enough.

On last year's game:

They were heartless in that game last year, not this year.
