Ohio Head Coach Tim O'Shea
Miami just was a lot better than we were today and obviously I'm concerned because that's two games in a row where we haven't played real well. I wish I could put my finger on it.
Defensively, we just had no answers.
You need your best players to play well, so hopefully we can rectify where we're at right now and have a strong second half of the MAC season.
They did exactly what you have to do to win on somebody else's home court. They did a great job.
We have to look within ourselves to find the answers to playing better.
On Sonny Troutman:
I've always thought that the best way to help a guy get out of a slump is to keep him out there. Hopefully he'll make a few shots and then get his confidence going.
On the game:
Like I said, it's round one. There will be a round two and maybe even round three. Hopefully, sometime in March when we look back at our season we will say "Hey, the team struggled at some point but they got away to reach most of their goals."
Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles:
I thought we may play well today, but playing well and winning here are two different things. We've played well here before, but we didn't win, so we're going to take it and get out of town very quickly. We're going to hope Ohio University didn't know it was us who played because I'm going to deny we were ever here. I know when we see them again next time they are going to be very good and I really mean that."
I thought that at key parts of the game we were able to score baskets and that was good for us. It meant that we could play with a lead in the second half. Otherwise I think Ohio would have probably caught us. If you look at the games we have played over the past two or three years, they have a history of catching us in the last few minutes. Ohio might be the most explosive team in the league in terms of catching you. We are very fortunate.
On the rivalry:
This is one of my favorite all-time places (Athens, Ohio). It's probably my favorite place because I played here, we played here when I coached Central Michigan. Miami-Ohio; there is nothing like it. There is nothing like it. You come to this town and it is a lot of fun, even when we have lost.
Ohio sophomore forward Leon Williams:
When asked what went wrong:
Coach told us in the locker room at the end of the game, we just came out slow in the first 10 minutes and that really had an effect on us coming back at the end. We just need to regroup from here and get ready for Kent State."
We really can't put a finger on it. In the beginning of the year, we were really in sync, but the past few games we have been looking for our rhythm and we are just not in it right now.
On the team's status:
We're not worried, we just need to take a step back and really focus on the things we need to work on.
On the team's confidence level:
As a team, I don't think we are losing confidence, but we need to stay level headed and not worry about these two games. We just need to take this one and move on.
