CLEVELAND, Ohio-Ohio senior forward Jerome Tillman posted his 26th career double-double Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough as top-seeded Bowling Green defeated ninth-seeded Ohio 74-61 in the Mid-American Conference Quarterfinals at Quicken Loans Arena.
Bowling Green improved to 19-12 overall and will face the winner of Thursday night’s matchup between fourth-seeded Miami and fifth-seeded Akron. Ohio dropped to 15-17 overall.
Tillman finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore forward DeVaughn Washington (Virginia Beach, Va.) had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals on 7-10 shooting. The four swipes tied a career-high. Senior forward Justin Orr (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior guard Michael Allen (Detroit, Mich.) also posted 11 points each.
Nate Miller led the Falcons with a double-double of his own as he netted 22 points and 10 rebounds. Brian Moten and Erik Marschall finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Joe Jakubowski led BG with eight assists.
Ohio finished with just seven turnovers during the contest, one off its season-low, which amounted to a 17-6 Ohio edge in points off turnovers. Ohio outrebounded the Falcons 14-7 on the offensive glass. The Bobcats also posted nine steals to just four for BG.
Orr led the Bobcats with nine points on 3-6 shooting (3-5 3FG). Tillman had four points and four rebounds in the first half. The Bobcats also had four steals and just two turnovers in the game’s first 20 minutes. The Ohio defense also forced the Falcons into seven first-half turnovers.
Miller led all scorers in the first half with 14 points on 5-6 shooting, while Jakubowski had six assists and Scott Thomas posted four boards.
Both teams also connected on 4-10 from long range and 5-6 from the charity stripe in the first half.
During the course of the game, Tillman passed Bobcat great Walter Luckett (1972-75) and is now eighth on Ohio’s career scoring list with 1,635 points. As a team, the Bobcats also tied the 1993-94 squad for fifth in single-season 3-pointers with 208.
