Ohio University Men’s Basketball - Post-Game Quotes
Ohio 66, Ashland 44
Nov. 2, 2013
Convocation Center

Head Coach Jim Christian
On the exhibition opener
“It’s clear that the environment of [last week’s] scrimmage that is closed and a game are two different things. A lot of new guys on the team had to get in this type of environment so they can correct some things. But it was good to see our team get 19 assists. It was good to see different guys get minutes. There is obviously a lot we have to work on for next week, but I like how we are progressing.”

On the role of Ohio’s five freshmen
“I think each one of them did some really good things today and I see that everyday in practice. I’ve said it a million times the strength of this team is in its numbers. Obviously, not having Bean [Willis] today hurt our offensive rhythm a little bit but again, I think we did a lot of things.”

On the play of Maurice Ndour
“He obviously has a unique skill set and plays very hard. You just have to get him to understand the team defensive concepts and I think that is going to be tough for any new player. He is not used to doing the level that he has to do here for us to be a really good team - to make us defensive team. He is going to get better and better as he gets comfortable. He can do a lot of different things out there.”

On what the team can improve on leading up to next Saturday’s regular season opener
“I don’t think we went to the offensive glass as well as we could have. I didn’t think we got to the foul line the way we are capable of getting to the foul line. Some of that was how they played. But we’re not a team that should be shooting 25 3-pointers a night. We have more versatility than that. There are a lot of defensive things that we need to fix to compete with Northern Iowa.”

Junior Guard Stevie Taylor

On starting at point guard today
“It felt really good. Coach [Christian] wanted me to play with a lot of confidence and lead his team. I really think I did a good job of that tonight. Of course I will go back and watch film and correct things and come back ready to play for Saturday.”
“I just try to help the team win. If I play good, I play good but I can get better still. So that’s what I am going to do this week and prepare for Saturday.”

On the play of junior forward Maurice Ndour
“He played great - he is really energetic. I really enjoy playing with him and I’m looking forward to doing that this season.”

Senior Guard/Forward Ricardo Johnson

On developing his offensive game

"I feel like making team plays, taking open shots is important on this team. If you have an open shot, shoot it. If you don’t, pass it to the next guy. So just sharing the ball and playing the better - I think last year we led the nation in assists, so that shows that we can share the ball.”

On how he played today
“I think it went pretty good. It’s just practice for next week. We have a big game coming up, so we’re going to watch the tape. It’s just a learning process so I just enjoy it and try to get better.”
