ATHENS, Ohio - Three players scored 14 points, and the Bobcats capitalized on 28 turnovers Saturday in a 73-57 victory for the Ohio men's basketball team over Shippensburg in non-conference action in the Convocation Center.

Leon Williams (Baltimore, Md.), Jeff Halbert (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Mychal Green each hit for 14 points in the Bobcat win, while point guard Jeremy Fears (Joliet, Ill.) kicked in 13 of his own. The Red Raiders (7-2) used a 30-point, nine-rebound effort from Chuck Davis to keep the game close down the stretch, but Ohio (5-1) eventually pulled away and picked up its fifth win of the season.

Williams was the key offensive factor for Ohio in the first half, scoring 13 points and converting 6-of-7 attempts from the floor. The Bobcats took a 38-27 lead into the intermission period, using a quick start and a solid finish to hold the edge.

Ohio's defense kept Shippensburg quiet for much of the first half. As the clock dipped below the 14-minute mark, a Whitney Davis (Ann Arbor, Mich.) jumper pushed the Bobcat lead to 16-4 and completed a 13-0 Ohio run. Shippensburg wouldn't reach double digits in scoring until a pair of free throws at the 9:58 mark carved the Ohio lead down to 18-10.

C. Davis carried the Red Raiders in the half, scoring 18 of the team's 27 points in the frame. He knocked down seven shots in the period, including three from beyond the arc. With just more than nine minutes left in the half, Davis scored 14-straight points for Shippensburg.

Ohio shot 54.8 percent (17-31) from the field in the first half, while Shippensburg hit 50 percent (10-20) of its tries. The rebounding category was knotted at 14, with Green and C. Davis each chipping in five for their respective clubs.

The Bobcats came out firing in the second half, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the frame. Halbert knocked down a three at the 13:20 mark to give Ohio a 21-point lead, its largest of the game.

Shippensburg, however, didn't quit. The Red Raiders clawed back, using a 14-2 run that spanned nearly five minutes and cut Ohio's lead to single digits for the first time since the 7:52 mark of the first half.

The Red Raiders trailed by eight points with 2:48 remaining in the game, but Ohio would go on to score the final eight points of the contest to seal the 16-point win.

For the game, Ohio shot 50.9 percent (29-57) from the floor and hit 5-of-17 (29.4 percent) three-point attempts. The Bobcats were outrebounded by Shippensburg 32-30, but the Cats outscored the Red Raiders in the paint (36-24) and scored more off turnovers (36-24).

C. Davis was the lone double-digit scorer for Shippensburg. He fell one rebound shy of a double-double.

In addition to the four double-digit scorers in the Ohio starting lineup, Sonny Troutman (Indianapolis, Ind.), W. Davis and Jerome Tillman (Beavercreek, Ohio) each entered the scoring column for the Cats.

Green led Ohio with eight boards. He and Troutman each recorded five assists, and Troutman registered five steals.

The Bobcats stay home for one more in the 2005 calendar year. Ohio will play host to Detroit on Thursday, Dec. 22, in a rematch of last season's ESPN Bracket Buster game. Tip-time in The Convo is set for 7 p.m.
