ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University head men's basketball coach John Groce announced on Friday that guard Armon Bassett has enrolled at the University for the winter quarter and will begin competing for the Bobcats at the conclusion of the 2009 fall quarter.

A third-team All-Big Ten selection last season after leading the conference with a 45.4 three-point field goal percentage, Bassett (Terre Haute, Ind.) spent the first two years of his career at Indiana University. In 61-career games for the Hoosiers, he averaged 10.4 points, 3.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest, while shooting 43.5 percent from beyond the arc. He finished his tenure in the cream and crimson with career highs of 25 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, which he reached on two occasions.

Bassett also helped lead IU to the NCAA Tournament in each of his two seasons in Bloomington, scoring 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while also dealing out seven assists, in a first-round loss to Arkansas in the 2008 edition of the tournament.

"We're extremely excited to welcome Armon Bassett into the Ohio basketball family," Groce said. "I've been close with Armon and his family for a number of years, and I'm confident that he'll be a great addition to the program, both on and off the court. This is an exciting day for Armon and Ohio basketball, and we all look forward to helping him reach his goals over the next few years."

Prior to his time at Indiana, Bassett was a prep standout at Hargrave Military Academy, where he earned a four-star rating from Scout.com and three-star billing from Rivals.com after averaging 24 points, six rebounds and six assists per game for a Hargrave team that ranked second nationally among prep schools. Bassett also averaged 22.5 points, six rebounds and six assists per outing as a senior at Terre Haute South Vigo High School in 2005, garnering a McDonald's All-America nomination, as well as a spot on the 2005 Indiana All-Star Team. A three-time all-conference selection, Bassett was also named to the Indiana Junior All-Star Team in 2004.

The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host Bucknell in a contest scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. Ohio is 1-0 all-time against the Bison, and owns a 9-4 all-time edge over teams from the Patriot League. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET on the Citizens Bank Ohio ISP Sports Network.
