Story on Dan Lowe from The Independent (Massillon, Ohio) In Memory of D-Lo (Recollections from those who knew him) Jan. 14, 2006 ATHENS, Ohio - Burgess and Margaret Lowe, along with the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and Ohio Athletics, announce the creation of the Dan Lowe Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Daniel Arnold Lowe passed away suddenly on June 24, 2005, in Athens, Ohio. He collapsed at the Ohio University Convocation Center while playing basketball with friends from the university's athletic program, where he was employed by the athletics department as promotions coordinator. The Canal Fulton native was 24. For two years as an undergraduate student, "D-Lo" stood taller than the rest in seat 1 of row A, section 7. While new students who share Dan's love of the Bobcats will continue to fill that seat at each and every home game, Dan's undying spirit was honored during halftime of Saturday's men's basketball game with a plaque dedicating his seat, seat #1, as the seat of Ohio's #1 fan! The Dan Lowe Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created to preserve the memory of Dan by providing scholarship support for a student in the E.W. Scripps School Journalism who has a minor in Sports Industry or a strong interest in sports. Donations are currently being accepted for the scholarship fund.
