Saturday's 88-84 Overtime Win Against Ball State
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Despite a career-high 26 points from freshman Sonny Troutman, the Ohio men’s basketball team fell to Bowling Green 81-71 Wednesday evening in a Mid-American Conference contest at Anderson Arena.
Troutman, a 6-5 forward from Indianapolis whose previous career high was 14, also tied his personal best in steals with five during his 33 minutes of action.
“Troutman had an outstanding game and is quickly becoming the player we all hoped he would be for us,” said Bobcat head coach Tim O’Shea. “I think this is just a preview of what’s to come from him.”
Although he also reached double figures with 10 points, Ohio senior Jaivon Harris had an off night. The two-time MAC East Player of the Week made only three of 13 shots from the field, including an 0-for-7 mark from three-point range.
The Bobcats, as a whole, shot 38 percent (23-of-60) from the field, 25 percent (6-of-24) from behind the arc and an uncharacteristically low 61 percent (19-of-31) from the free-throw line.
The Falcons (10-12, 6-6 MAC), meanwhile, made the same amount of field goals and three-pointers as the Bobcats but made 29 of 40 (72.5 percent) free throws in the game.
After trailing 41-25 at the break, Ohio closed the gap to single digits several times in the second half but could get no closer than seven.
The Bobcats (8-14, 5-7 MAC) host Akron at 2 p.m. Saturday amidst Winter Parents Weekend in Athens. For ticket information, please contact the Ohio Athletics Ticket Office at 740-593-1300, toll-free at 800-575-CATS or online by CLICKING HERE!
