TIP OFF
The Bobcats fought valiantly at Akron on Sunday, but eventually dropped a three-point double-overtime heartbreaker in Rhodes Arena.
The Bobcats got a career-high 33 points from D.J. Cooper and a career-high 16 points and 20 rebounds (Rhodes Arena record) from Reggie Keely in the loss. Akron's tandem of Chris McKnight (25 points, 18 rebounds) and Jimmy Conyers (20 points, 11 rebounds) both registered double-doubles for the home team.
Kent State is 18-8 this season and sits in a tie atop the league at 9-3. Kent State's Chris Singletary is in the top five in the MAC in steals (3rd, 1.82), assists (4th, 4.14) and assist-to-turnover ratio (5th, 1.75)
WHO'S HOT
Freshman point guard D.J. Cooper has scored in double figures in 20 of his first 26 collegiate contests this season. He is averaging 14.2 points, 5.6 assists, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game.
NOTABLES FROM THE AKRON GAME
The Bobcats' D.J. Cooper was a workhorse, playing 49 of the game's 50 minutes. The Bobcats also had just 12 turnovers compared to 15 for Akron, the 23rd time in 26 games that the Bobcats have committed as many or fewer miscues than the opposition.
