ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio University senior guard Nick Kellogg has been selected to participate in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament April 16-19 in Portsmouth, Va.
The renowned event features 64 of the nation’s top college basketball seniors in an eight-team, four-day tournament format. The PIT is attended by NBA scouts and evaluators from a number of international teams.
“I feel blessed and fortunate to have this type of opportunity and to be considered for the event,” Kellogg said. “There are some great players on my team as well as at the entire camp. Hopefully, this will help with the development of my game and get my foot in the door for some of the things I want to do down the road.”
Kellogg will compete for Roger Brown’s Restaurant, along with Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Jordair Jett (Saint Louis), A-10 First Team selection Chaz Williams (UMass), All-BIG EAST second teamer Fuquan Edwin (Seton Hall) and former Saul Phillips standout Taylor Braun (North Dakota State).
Kellogg’s other teammates include Aaric Murray (Texas Southern), Shawn Jones (Middle Tennessee State) and Tyler Stone (Southeast Missouri State).
“I’m looking forward to getting back in a 5-on-5 setting,” Kellogg said. “I just want to go out there, play and have fun. Obviously there will be scouts out there, so I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. At the end of the day it’s basketball. That’s what I love doing and that’s what these guys love doing, so it will be good to be in this type of environment with this high level of competition.
Kellogg saved his best for last during an outstanding senior season in a Bobcat uniform. The Westerville, Ohio, native averaged career bests in points (15.5 ppg), rebounds (3.6 rpg), assists (2.9 apg) and field goal percentage (.462) this season while shooting 39.6 percent from 3-point territory.
In recognition of his efforts, Kellogg was named to the NABC District 14 First Team and received Second Team All-MAC honors. He also garnered MAC All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 20.7 points per game during the event.
This season, the senior led the MAC with a .887 free throw percentage was third with 2.4 3-pointers made/game and fifth in scoring. He also was seventh in 3-point field goal percentage. In league play, Kellogg ranked t-8th in the conference in assists/game (3.2) and sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.7).
One of the top sharpshooters in Ohio University history, Kellogg is the MAC’s all-time 3-point king, with a league-best 290 3-pointers made over his four seasons in Athens.
