Walter Offutt Named Academic All-MAC

Offutt earned All-MAC Third Team honors this season.

ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University senior guard Walter Offutt has been named to the 2012-13 Academic All-MAC Team, the league office announced Friday.

Offutt, who’s completing his Master’s degree in coaching education, served as a co-captain for the Ohio men’s basketball team while maintaining a 3.556 cumulative GPA.

The Indianapolis, Ind., product started all 34 games for the Bobcats this season and ranked third on the team with 10.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, while leading Ohio with a .794 (81-102) free throw percentage.

Offutt finished the season ranked eighth in the conference in free throw percentage, t-11th in steals (1.3 spg) and 23rd in scoring. The senior averaged 11.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two MAC Tournament games for the Bobcats.

He helped lead Ohio to a 24-10 record and a share of the MAC regular season title for the first time since 1994.

For his efforts, Offutt earned All-MAC Third Team honors and also was named the MAC East Division Player Week during non-conference play on Nov. 26.

Offutt was joined on the Academic All-MAC Team by Brian Walsh (Akron), Jauwan Scaife (Ball State), Will Regan (Buffalo) and Brandon Pokley (Western Michigan).
