ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Men’s Basketball has announced the signing of Travis Wilkins, a 6-3 guard. Wilkins will join the Bobcats for the summer quarter after transferring from Snow College.
"We are excited to add Travis to the Ohio Men's Basketball family," Head Coach Jim Christian said. "I think it's important to add the right type of person to the culture we have in place here at Ohio. I am impressed with Travis' maturity and commitment to both athletics and academics. He is someone that will fit in well with our current blend of student-athletes."
Wilkins, a Springfield, Missouri native, attended Snow College in Utah these past two seasons and recently decommitted from Southern Illinois. The 23-year old took two years off after he graduated high school in 2007 to go on a Mormon mission. He will be considered a junior in terms of eligibility next season.
Wilkins earned NJCAA Division I All-America third-team honors this season and was selected to the Scenic West Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team. He ranked third in the league in scoring at 17.2 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field.
Wilkins also made the SWAC All-Tournament team, earned all-region honors and was selected as an academic All-American due to his outstanding 3.95 GPA. Wilkins averaged 1.7 assists and steals per game, led the league in free throw (84%) and three-point shooting (46%) and played almost 30 minutes per game.
"I'm very excited to be a Bobcat," Wilkins said. "To come play for a team with a rich tradition and is also coming off a Sweet 16 berth, it's a great opportunity."
A dead-eye shooter, Wilkins led Willard High School to the Class 4 Missouri State Championship in 2007 and was an all-state selection during his senior season. He is the son of Jimmy and Debbie Wilkins. He is married to Daphne Wilkins.
