May 22, 2009
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University head men's basketball coach John Groce announced on Friday that Alex Kellogg has been admitted to the University and will be eligible to compete for the Bobcats at the outset of the 2010-11 season. A 6-7, 225-pound forward, Kellogg (Columbus, Ohio) spent his first two collegiate seasons at Providence, where he saw action in 33 games, including one start. He shot 40.0 percent from the floor and averaged 1.2 rebounds per contest during his tenure with the Friars. "We are very excited to have Alex Kellogg join our family," Groce said. "Alex brings a lot of winning experiences to our basketball program. He competed in the Big East for two years, and he had a tremendous amount of success at DeSales High School in Columbus. We have really focused on adding winners to Ohio basketball, and Alex brings that to our program in a big way." The son of renowned college basketball analyst and former NBA player Clark Kellogg, Alex amassed more than 1,000 points during his career at DeSales from 2003-07. He was named first-team all-district and second-team all-state as a senior after averaging 18.3 points and 10.0 boards per game to lead DeSales to the Division II state semifinals.
