ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University men's basketball head coach Jim Christian has announced the addition of guard Rio Adams to the 2013-14 roster.

Adams transfers to Ohio after spending his freshman season at the University of Kansas. The Seattle, Wash., native saw action in 24 games for the Jayhawks during the 2012-13 campaign.

Per NCAA guidelines, Adams will sit out the 2013-14 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Bobcats beginning in 2014-15.

"We're excited to have Rio as part of our program," said Ohio University head coach Jim Christian. "He's played on two state championship teams in high school and at one of the preeminent programs in the country at Kansas. We're looking forward to working with him over the next four years."

A former top-100 recruit, Adams was ranked as the No. 22 shooting guard by Rivals (No. 98 overall) and No. 26 by ESPN.com (No. 91 overall) in the Class of 2012. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game during his senior campaign at Rainier Beach High School and was named the Washington 3A Metro Player of the Year after leading the Vikings to the state title. Adams also captured a Washington 3A state championship as a member of the Franklin High School Quakers during his freshman season.

Coming out of high school, Adams chose Kansas over offers from Arizona, California, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Texas, UCLA, USC, Washington and Washington State.

Adams is one of five new players on the Ohio roster in 2013-14.

The group includes junior college transfer Maurice Ndour (Thies, Senegal) and freshmen Antonio Campbell (Covington, Ky.), Wadly Mompremier (Miami, Fla.) and D.J. Wingfield (Cincinnati, Ohio).

The full Ohio University 2013-14 men's basketball roster will be released later this week.
