ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Men’s Basketball announced the entire 2012-13 schedule today, a slate that features 19 home games, road games at Memphis and Oklahoma, 16 contests against teams that qualified for postseason play and nine games against teams with a top-100 RPI.

"This is a difficult schedule, no doubt about it," Head Coach Jim Christian said. "I think this set of games is more demanding than what this team has faced in years past and that’s a good thing. This team is battle-tested and one of the most experienced squads in the country so I have no doubt they have what it takes to meet these challenges.”

Prior to opening the regular season, Ohio will play an exhibition contest against Mercyhurst College on November 3.

For the first time since the 1939-4 season, the Bobcats will open with six-straight home games. The slate begins on Nov. 10 with a contest against Portland. Last year, D.J. Cooper notched the first triple-double in program history during a 72-54 win.

Ohio will then take part in the four-game Nation of Coaches Classic which starts with a home game against UNC-Wilmington on Nov. 16.

Two days later, the Bobcats will welcome Wofford before playing a third game in five days when it hosts Hampton. Both squads won their respective conferences during the 2010-11 season and the Terriers were regular season runners-up in the Southern Conference last year, reaching the College Basketball Invitational.

The season-opening six-game homestand concludes with the last two champions of the Atlantic 10 visiting Athens. Richmond will visit on Nov. 24 as the Spiders reached the Sweet 16 two years ago under Head Coach Chris Mooney. Then on Nov. 28, the reigning A-10 title holders St. Bonaventure, will play the Bobcats after a one-year hiatus in the series.

December starts with consecutive road contests as Ohio travels to Robert Morris and Memphis. The Colonials won 26 games last season and played in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament after finishing as the runner-up in the Northeast Conference. The Colonials have won three in a row against the Bobcats by a total of eight points.

One of the marquee matchups of the non-conference season occurs on Dec. 5 with the contest against the Tigers. Josh Pastner’s team also won 26 games last season, captured the Conference USA championship last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The following week, Ohio is home for meetings with Oakland and Winthrop. Last season, the ‘Cats topped the Golden Grizzlies, 84-82, before OU went on to win 20 games and play in the CIT. The Eagles, historically the best team in the Big South, come to Athens after hosting Ohio in the 2011 ESPNU BracketBuster event.

As part of the Mid-American Conference welcoming Massachusetts to the league for football, the Bobcats and Minutemen will meet in Amherst on Dec. 19. Last year, UMass won 25 games enjoyed a long run in the National Invitational Tournament. The final home game of 2012 features Maryland-Eastern Shore on Dec. 22.

Another game that stands out on the Bobcat ledger is a road contest on Dec. 29 at Oklahoma. It will be quite the contest to close the calendar year as the Sooners are trying to get back to the NCAA Tournament under second-year head coach Lon Kruger.

The Bobcats open 2013 with their most common non-conference foe, rival Marshall. Ohio is 52-46 all-time against the Thundering Herd, having won two in a row. Marshall advanced to the NIT last season after finishing as the runner-up in Conference USA.

The Bobcats will take part in the annual ESPNU BracketBuster on Sat. Feb. 23. This is the 10th year of the BracketBuster event with this year’s contest for Ohio being a road game after last season’s home victory against UNC-Asheville.

MAC Play will start on Jan. 9 with a home contest against Buffalo. The rest of the home slate continues with games against Northern Illinois (Jan. 16), Toledo (Jan. 19), Eastern Michigan (Jan.30), Bowling Green (Feb. 9), Kent State (Feb. 16) and Akron (Feb. 27), before culminating in the regular-season finale against Miami on either March 8 or 9.

Ohio’s first road game in conference play will occur on Jan. 12 at Western Michigan. The Bobcats will then travel to Miami (Jan. 23), Kent State (Jan. 26), Akron (Feb.2 ), Ball State (Feb. 6), Central Michigan (Feb. 13), Bowling Green (March 2) before ending with a game at Buffalo on March 5.

The season will conclude with the FirstEnergy MAC Men's & Women's Basketball Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena, March 13-16. First-round games are set for on-campus sites, Monday, March 11.

The Bobcats advanced to the postseason for a third year in a row, and fourth time in five years, last season by advancing to the Sweet 16. Ohio’s two postseason wins last year increase its total to 13, adding to its lead over all other MAC schools.

Ohio’s 48 wins over the past two seasons are its most since the 1993-94 and 1994-95 campaigns. The 70 wins over the last three years are the most in program history. The Bobcats also achieved their first winning record in true road games over consecutive seasons since the mid-1980’s.

Ohio has been an excellent team on its home floor and owns the highest winning percentage in the conference since the Convocation Center opened in 1968, having had only one losing season. The Bobcats had their best home record ever last season, going 16-1, and have recorded 10 or more wins at home the last eight seasons.
