ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's basketball team was picked to finish third in the East Division in the annual Mid-American Conference preseason poll announced Tuesday.
The poll was announced prior to the league's preseason media teleconference and was determined by a 25-member MAC News Media Panel.
Akron was selected to win the MAC East Division and received a league-high 14 votes to capture the Mid-American Conference Tournament title.
Ohio returns eight letter winners from a 2012-13 squad that claimed an NIT berth after earning a share of the MAC regular season title. The Green & White also welcome six newcomers to the program, including five freshman and junior college transfer Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal).
The Bobcats also feature the talents of two transfer student-athletes that sat out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer guidelines. The duo includes Texas Tech transplant Javarez Willis (Homer, La.) and Southern Illinois transfer Treg Setty (Maysville, Ky.).
The `Cats will look to reach the post-season in 2013-14 for a school record fifth-consecutive season.
The Bobcats open the 2013-14 season on Saturday (Nov. 2) with an exhibition contest against Ashland inside the Convocation Center. Ohio begins the regular season on Nov. 9 at home against Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa.
