ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's basketball team (1-0) returns to action Friday night for a 7 p.m. matchup with UNC-Wilmington at the Convocation Center.
The Bobcats return to the hardwood after posting a convincing 81-52 victory over Portland last Saturday afternoon at the Convo. The victory was the first in Head Coach Jim Christian's career at Ohio to give the Bobcats their ninth-consecutive victory in home-openers.
D.J. Cooper and Nick Kellogg led the way for the Bobcats as both netted 18 points
apiece. Cooper also added five rebounds, six assists, and three steals to his scoring output while Kellogg was a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range. Reggie Keely and Ivo Baltic also scored in double figures, contributing 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Ohio shot 50 percent from the field (29-of-58) in the win while limiting Portland to just 35 percent (17-of-49). The Bobcats took great advantage of Portland's 23 turnovers, scoring 35 points off these miscues. Ohio also held a 16-3 edge in fast-break points.
The Bobcats will look to extend their winning streak at home to 11 in-a-row. Ohio's last loss at home came to Robert Morris back on Jan. 2, 2012
Ohio will take on a UNC-Wilmington squad that opened the year with a 67-59 decision over state rival UNC Asheville before losing to Richmond by 43 points Tuesday night. The Spiders shot a blistering 58.2 percent and built a 20-point halftime lead en route to handing UNCW its third worst defeat ever.
The Seahawks are coached by Buzz Peterson, who owns a 249-187 record in 15 seasons on the bench.
