ATHENS, Ohio – Junior forward Maurice Ndour has been named the MAC East Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It marks the first time in his young Ohio career that Ndour has earned the honor. Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) garnered the accolade last week.
Ndour averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 56.5 percent (13-23) from the field in two games for Ohio this week.
The Mbour, Senegal, native shined in the Bobcats’ 76-72 win over Valparaiso with a career-best 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Ndour also hit personal bests in steals (4) and blocks (5) in a stellar all-around effort by the junior.
On Tuesday at No. 10/9 Ohio State, Ndour posted eight of his 10 points (4-6 FG) in the second half to help Ohio mount a comeback and move within five (65-60) of the nationally-ranked Buckeyes late in the game. Ndour also notched a team-high nine rebounds against OSU.
Ohio (2-1) returns to action on Wednesday when the ‘Cats take on Morgan State (0-3) at 7:30 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
