Bobcats BracketBust Winthrop in Overtime, 77-74
Two of Ohio's seniors stepped up on the road this evening and the Bobcats earned their first overtime win of the season, 77-74, over Winthrop in the ESPNU BracketBuster from Rock Hill, S.C.
The Bobcats return to the hardwood for their first game in seven days. In their last outing, Ohio defeated Oakland 78-61 to hand head coach Jim Christian his 200th career victory.
In the win, Ohio guard D.J. Cooper recorded his second double-double on the year as he scored 10 points and dished out 13 assists. Cooper was one of four Bobcats that scored in double figures. Senior guard Walter Offutt led the way with 14 points.
Ohio entered the week with four players averaging 10.0 points-or-more per game. The Bobcats were the only team in the league that had four players averaging double figures in scoring entering the week. In addition, Ohio owns the best record in the Mid-American Conference.
The Eagles (3-6) enter Saturday afternoon's matchup with the Bobcats after they defeated Brevard College on Dec. 4, 77-54. In the win over the Tornados, Winthrop placed four players in double figures. The Eagles' 77-point output against Brevard was their highest scoring output of the season.
Winthrop is 0-3 on the road this season and is averaging just 57 points offensively, while allowing 69 points per game. All three of Winthrop's wins have come against Non-Division I opponents.
Defensively, the Eagles have limited their opponents to just 62.0 points per game, which ranks second in the Big South. Sophomore Derrick Henry leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game.
The Eagles are coached by first-year bench boss Pat Kelsey.

Ohio's Saturday afternoon meeting with Winthrop will mark the second all-time meeting with the Eagles. The Bobcats defeated Winthrop 77-74 during the 2010-11 season as part of the ESPN BracketBuster in the two team's first-ever meeting.
