Gerry Gdowski is in his eighth season mentoring the Ohio quarterbacks, and his sixth carrying the title of co-offensive coordinator.

Gdowski has helped oversee four offenses that have ranked among the school's all-time best in his six seasons in Athens.

In 2010, Boo Jackson finished his career as Ohio's career leader in completion percentage (.604), pass efficiency (136.3), total offense per play (6.18), passing yards per attempt (7.7) and touchdown passes (38). He also finished the season responsible for 26 touchdowns, 48 in his career, which is fourth all-time, and with 18 passing touchdowns in 2010 (third all-time on the single-season list).

Quarterback Theo Scott set a new single-season school record with 20 touchdown passes, while receiver Terrence McCrae tied Andrew Mooney's single-season touchdown reception mark with nine. Fellow wideout Taylor Price also set the school's career mark with 149 catches. The 2009 team also finished second in school history in passing yards (2,774) and completions (228) and third in total points (347), total offense (4,342).

In 2008, he helped mentor quarterback Boo Jackson as he set the school's single-season record for touchdown passes. Jackson also threw for the second-most yards in school history and put himself on three of Ohio's career passing marks, including completion percentage, passing yards per attempt and passing efficiency. Overall, the Bobcats' offense amassed 4,337 yards of total offense, the third-highest total in school history.

Gdowski preceded the successful 2008 unit by coaching quarterback Brad Bower to what-was-then Bobcat career passing records in yards per attempt and passing efficiency in 2007. The Ohio offense also ranked second all-time in team history with 366 points scored and 4,374 yards gained during the season.

In his first three seasons with the Bobcats, Gdowski helped Austen Everson become one of Ohio's all-time top 10 passers in several categories. The two-time Academic All-MAC pick started 24 of Ohio's 25 games during the past two seasons. He finished his career ranked fourth all-time with 3,486 passing yards, fifth all-time with 305 completions and sixth all-time in total offense with 4,372 yards. In 2006, Everson set career highs with 137 completions, a 54.2 completion percentage, 1,356 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns and 1,713 yards of total offense. More than 70 percent of Everson's passing yards came under Gdowski's tutelage. Gdowski came to Athens after eight seasons at New Mexico State. He was the Aggies' recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach until 2003 when he took over as offensive coordinator. The Aggies ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference in 2004 in scoring offense and passing offense.

While presiding over the NMSU quarterbacks, Gdowski's signal callers were among the best in school history. In the 2003 season, Aggie quarterback Buck Pierce set a school record for passing efficiency and finished 14th in the nation. He also coached the 2002 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, Paul Dombrowski, who set Aggie records for rushing yards and touchdowns in a season.

Gdowski began his coaching career at Nebraska, working with the quarterbacks, tight ends and receivers as a graduate assistant from 1991 to 1993. He then moved to South Dakota State, where he coached for three seasons. After two years as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, Gdowski was promoted to offensive coordinator.

As a player, he earned three letters at Nebraska and was the starting quarterback and team captain for the Cornhuskers in 1989. Gdowski was named to the All-Big Eight First Team at quarterback in 1989 and was an eighth round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints. He finished his playing career in Lincoln with school records for most touchdowns in a game (six vs. Iowa State in 1989) and in a season (32 in 1989), as well as the season passing efficiency record (177.3 rating).Gdowski excelled off the field at Nebraska as well. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 1989 and was awarded the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Postgraduate Scholarship as well as the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. A 1990 graduate of Nebraska with a bachelor's in business administration, Gdowski went on to earn his master's from Nebraska in 1996.

A Fremont, Neb., native, Gdowski and his wife, Sam, have three sons - Isaac, Luke, and Thomas.
