In 2016, Matt Morton will enter his 12th sports season working with OHIO Athletics in the Peden Stadium Football equipment room, and his 3rd as the Assistant AD of Equipment Services for the Bobcats. He began working with OHIO Athletics in both the Convocation Center and Peden Stadium equipment rooms as a student-manager in 2005. Prior to his current role, he was promoted to Assistant Director of Equipment in August 2007 and then to Director of Equipment/Peden Stadium in 2008.
Morton manages the day-to-day equipment needs for all teams housed in Peden Stadium. Working primarily with football, Morton supervises a staff made up of interns, graduate, and student assistants who also work with the Field Hockey, Women's Track & Field, Men's and Women's Cross Country, and Swimming & Diving teams.
Among Morton's responsibilities are the bidding and ordering of equipment, management of inventory, maintenance, repair, fitting, and cleaning of all athletic equipment and apparel housed in Peden Stadium. Morton also develops and coordinates uniform design with OHIO Athletics' official apparel provider, Russell Athletic.
Morton is responsible for all football attire, footwear, protective equipment, on-field practice equipment and Peden Stadium locker room access control and game day locker room set up and operation. He and his staff also coordinate and oversee the transportation of game day equipment and supplies for all of the Bobcats' road contests and bowl games.
Prior to beginning his current post with OHIO Athletics, he interned and worked at Adena Health System in his hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio in their Process Excellence and Workplace Learning & Development departments.
Morton is an Ohio University graduate with a degree in Health Services Administration. He is a certified member of the Athletic Equipment Manager's Association (AEMA) and member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Morton was named the 2015 Equipment Director of the Year by the Managers On A Mission organization this past fall. In January of 2016, Morton was a nominee for the annual AEMA District 5 Tony Anderson Award, given to the district's top equipment manager. When his schedule allows, Morton assists NFL Films with game day productions during Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns games. Additionally, Morton guest speaks on equipment operations and risk management to graduate students enrolled in Ohio University's Masters of Coaching Education program.
He and his wife, Jessica, also a graduate of Ohio, were married inside Galbreath Chapel on the campus of Ohio University in the spring of 2014. The couple resides in Athens.
