Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Ohio Head Coach Frank Solich

On the penalties in the first half:

We kept their drives alive on penalties, especially that one long drive where we had five penalties.  Obviously we can be a pretty good football team if we do not have to play the opponent and ourselves, and that is what was happening in the first half.

On Brad Bower:

He never gets down. That is a great thing about Brad. He is a very team-oriented person.

On the 21 consecutive points in the third quarter:

There were really big plays throughout the course of the game that contributed to the win, but obviously that span of 21 points was extremely important to us.

On finishing the year at .500:

We are still inching our way forward and are still continuing to build. This was a great way to finish off right.

On the senior class:

The whole senior class contributed immensely with their attitude and as coaches that is what you look for: guys that come out ready to practice and work to get better even if they are coming off of a loss.  They always just kept coming back.

On the rivalry with Miami:

Obviously the rivalry is very important to people. Miami has an excellent program. To finish with a win against them is important and it is also important to Ohio University to win two games in a row.

Ohio Tight End Andrew Mooney

On the changes made at halftime:

The coaches did a great job of coming in and making adjustments and telling us what we were going to do.  We executed the gameplan great and it worked out for us.

Ohio Safety Todd Koenig

On the defense stepping up in the second half:

We knew all along that we could stop them and if we finally started playing smarter then we could shut them down.  That's what we came out and did the second half.

On the seniors playing their final game:

We really had a lot to play for - for ourselves and for each other.  There was a lot of emotion out on the field.  It was a good thing, but it hurt us a little in the first half, but we were playing hard.

On the season ending with a win:

We had high hopes this year and everyone gave everything they had all season.

Miami Head Coach Shane Montgomery

On the momentum swing at the beginning of the third quarter:

Well, the first six minutes of the third quarter were big. They took the first drive and went down and scored making it a 17-14 game, and then we had back-to-back turnovers in three plays. We turned it over on the first play of the first series and the second play of the second series, so we gave them 21 quick points and they didn't have to really work for it very much. That was the key.

On whether or not he was surprised by the momentum swing:

While we did some things, we gave them the ball twice in a short field, and that's the worst-case scenario. We gave them a chance to get some field goals, so we just lost all of our momentum there. They had a good drive at the beginning [of the second half]. You got to give them credit, and they took advantage of two big plays and next thing you know we're down.

On settling for field goals in the red zone:

We were down there a lot and had a chance to make some plays. We had a couple of breakdowns in the red zone that hurt us, just things that we didn't do that hurt us. We didn't execute.

On attempting the fake punt in the fourth quarter:

Well, we have been carrying the fake punt all year, and this was a chance where we had lost some momentum. We had gotten a field goal and we decided to run it. It's a hit or miss play. If you don't hit it you're going to give them the ball inside our forty. If you do, we actually got a big play out of it and got some points out of it.

His thoughts on Ohio going into the game:

We knew we were going to play a pretty good team. They were the MAC East Champions last year and we knew they had a good football team. They have one of the best running backs in the league in (Kalvin) McRae. They have a very opportunistic defense and even though they had given up some yards and points, they blitzed a lot and put a lot of pressure on us. We hit them on a lot of plays, but we just didn't hit them on enough.
