ATHENS, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday the 2012 league home and away opponents for the Ohio University football team. The conference office also announced the reconfiguration of the league's two divisions with the addition of the University of Massachusetts.
Ohio will play host to Buffalo, Akron, UMass and Bowling Green at Peden Stadium this fall. The Bobcats' four road league games will feature trips to Temple, Kent State, Miami and Ball State.
In addition to the Bobcats' eight league games, Ohio will also face-off against non-conference opponents Penn State, New Mexico State, Marshall and Norfolk State
With the addition of UMass to the MAC the number of football membership will rise to 14 beginning this fall. The league reconfigure with Bowling Green moving to the West Division and UMass joining the East Division.
This will be the first time since 2006 that the MAC will have balanced divisional schedules. Each member will continue to play an eight-game conference schedule, however each member will now play six divisional games and two non-divisional cross-over games. There will no longer be protected cross-over games.
The conference office will announce the complete 2012 regular season football schedule by the first week of March.
