ATHENS, Ohio - Thanks to the generosity of Ohio fans and alumni, over 400 Shreveport youth were provided with the opportunity to attend the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl.
Ohio Athletics partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Shreveport and the Kennedy Center of Louisiana to provide disadvantaged youth the opportunity to attend the game. For many of the children in attendance, this was their first opportunity to attend a live college sporting event.
"The kids had such a fantastic time at the game, and I think they were really in awe of the environment. We can't thank Bobcat fans enough for their kindness in providing this opportunity," said Rachel Croft, a mentor with the Kennedy Center.
In addition to the Tickets for Kids program, Ohio Athletics also partnered with Barksdale Air Force Base in a "Tickets for Troops" program. Over 50 tickets were donated to local servicemen and women stationed at the base.
Approximately 300 Bobcat fans participated in the program, as well as several local businesses and civic organizations. Due to the major success in its first year, Ohio Athletics will look to continue a similar program for future bowl games.
