Athens, Ohio – Ma’tron Church, a linebacker from St. Petersburg, Fla., has signed a national letter-of-intent to play football at Ohio, head coach Brian Knorr announced today.
Church (6-3, 230) comes to the Bobcat program after one season at Hargrave Military Academy. He was a standout linebacker for the Tigers, helping them to an 8-3 record last year. Church teamed with fellow Ohio signee Ivann Parker.
A graduate of Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Church was an all-county selection by the St. Petersburg Times as a senior. He led the Spartans to the Class 4A District 7 title and their first-ever playoff win. Church blocked a punt that set a tying score in the regional semifinals, but the team lost in overtime. He played linebacker, defensive end, running back and fullback during his career.
Church also participated in basketball, wresting and track at Lakewood.
The addition of Church to the Bobcats' recruiting class brings the total number to 19.
