ATHENS, Ohio - The White team defeated the Green Team 15-7 Saturday afternoon at the annual Green and White game Saturday afternoon at Peden Stadium. Saturday afternoon's contest marked the conclusion of spring practice for the Ohio University football team.
The Ohio defensive unit was the story day as it combined for six interceptions and seven sacks. Redshirt freshman Devin Bass (Omaha, Neb.) picked off a game-high two passes, while redshirt junior Nic Barber (Newark, Ohio) and sophomore Tony Davis (Wyoming, Ohio) each had a pair of sacks.
Offensively for the Bobcats, redshirt junior Beau Blankenship (Norman, Okla.) led the way with a game-high 76 yards rushing on just five carries. His biggest run came in the first half as he reeled off a 49-yard rush, which set up a Matt Weller (Twinsburg, Ohio) field goal.
Weller finished the day by going 3-for-5, connecting from 29, 34 and 31 yards out. He also missed from 41 and 33 yards out.
Redshirt junior running Ryan Boykin (Woodstock, Ga.) and junior tight end Art Jordan scored the only two touchdowns on the afternoon. Boykin's touchdown came on a one-yard run, which gave the Green team its only score of the afternoon, while Jordan's touchdown secured the win for the White team as he hauled in a two-yard pass from redshirt freshman Derrius Vick (Lincoln, Neb.).
Vick finished the day, going 12-of-21 for 85 yards with a touchdown pass and a pair of interceptions, while redshirt junior quarterback Tyler Tettleton (Norman, Okla.) finished the day, completing 7-of-17 for 136 yards with four interceptions.
Tettleton and Vick combined to complete passes to 13 different receivers. Redshirt junior Donte Foster (Guthrie, Okla.) and redshirt sophomore Stephane N'goumou (Rockville, Md.) each hauled in a game-high three receptions.
Redshirt sophomore Chase Cochran (Lebanon, Ohio) led the Cats with a game-high 58 receiving yards. His lone catch came from Tettleton in the first half. Redshirt junior Mario Dovell (Columbus, Ohio) also chipped in with a 33-yard reception from Tettleton.
Ohio opens the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at Penn State. The Bobcats home-opener is set for Sept. 8 against New Mexico State.
