ATHENS, Ohio - Former Ohio University football players Skyler Allen and Neal Huynh both signed free agent contracts this week. Allen signed with the Detroit Lions, while Huynh inked a deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
Jordan Thompson and Bakari Bussey also earned tryouts with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Lions, respectively.
Allen (Mechanicsville, Va.) was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2012. Allen received All-Conference recognition after he started every game at center this season for the Bobcats. Throughout his career in Athens, Allen made 38 career starts and helped anchor an offensive line which helped Ohio remain among the Top 5 in most major offensive categories throughout most of the season.
Huynh also earned All-MAC Third Team following his senior season. The Altoona, Pa. native earned all-league honors after he led the team in sacks and tackles for loss.
Thompson received a tryout from the Chiefs after tallied over 650 yards receiving during his four-year career at Ohio. The Rockford, Ohio native was a three-time Academic All-MAC recipient and was named All-MAC Second Team following his sophomore season.
Bussey (West Chester, Ohio) earned a tryout from Detroit after posting a strong performance at the 2013 Ohio vs. Michigan College Football Senior Bowl. Bussey scored the lone touchdown of the afternoon for Team Ohio as he hauled in a 72-yard pass. Bussey finished the day with two catches for 84 yards. In 2012, Bussey was second on the team in receptions, finishing with 37 on the year.
