ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio punt returner LaVon Brazill and linebacker Noah Keller received national recognition from NationalChamps.net this week.
Brazill, who received 2009 All-America honors from Sporting News (second team), Phil Steele (fourth team) and SI.com (honorable mention), was named a preseason third-team All-American by the website. The Lantana, Fla. native, who was the only Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athlete in the nation with three punt returns for touchdowns last season, averaging 13.46 yards per return, the 12th-highest total nationally. Brazill recorded scores on a 72-yarder at Bowling Green, an 87-yarder against Kent State and a 91-yader against Northern Illinois. For his career, Brazill has a school-record four punt returns for touchdowns.
Keller, who was named honorable mention All-America by SI.com last season, also earned honorable mention honors from NationalChamps.net. Last season, the Kearney, Neb. native posted a MAC-high 155 tackles, which averaged out to 11.07 per game, the sixth-highest total nationally. He also finished with nine tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, three pass breakups and a pair of forced fumbles.
The Bobcats, fresh off their second MAC East title and bowl appearance in the last four years, will open their 2010 slate on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Wofford in Peden Stadium.
