ATHENS, Ohio - Seniors Nathan Carpenter, Tim Edmond, Josh Kristoff and junior Derrius Vick were named captains for the 2014 Ohio University football team in a vote conducted by their teammates.
Carpenter (Lancaster, Ohio) was selected as a team captain after he finished the 2013 campaign with 43 tackles and three pass breakups. He closed out the year on a high note as he tallied a season-best seven tackles against East Carolina in the Beef `O' Brady's Bowl.
Edmond (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned the captains' nod following an outstanding offseason where he earned the team's Iron Bobcat Award, which is the team's highest strength and conditioning honor. As a junior in 2013, Edmond played in all 13 games and was featured in short yardage situations. He finished the year with 108 yards on 31 carries.
Kristoff (Pickerington, Ohio) was picked as a captain after he finished second on the team with a single season career-high 72 tackles. He also totaled five pass breakups as he appeared in all 13 games, making 13 starts. Off the field in the classroom, Kristoff is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree.
Vick (Lincoln, Neb.) earned the Bobcats' fourth captain slot following a sophomore campaign where he saw action in a career-high 11 games in a backup role to former signal-caller Tyler Tettleton. Vick closed out the year on a high note as he went a perfect 3-for-3 for 100 yards and one touchdown in the 2013 Beef `O' Brady's Bowl.
The Bobcats open the 2014 season at Kent State on Aug. 30 under the direction of Frank Solich, who begins his 10th season as head coach.
