ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio punt returner LaVon Brazill was named a 2010 preseason third-team All-American at punt returner by Sporting News on Tuesday.
This is the fourth such honor for the Lantana, Fla. native after garnering second-team honors from Phil Steele, third-team honors from NationalChamps.net and honorable mention acclaim from Consensus Draft Services (cdsdraft.com).
He received 2009 postseason All-America honors from Sporting News (second team), Phil Steele (fourth team) and SI.com (honorable mention). Last season, he was the only Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athlete in the nation with three punt returns for touchdowns, averaging 13.46 yards per return, which was the 12th-highest total nationally. Brazill recorded the scores on a 72-yarder at Bowling Green, an 87-yarder against Kent State and a 91-yader against Northern Illinois. For his career, Brazill has a school-record four punt returns for touchdowns.
The Bobcats, fresh off their second MAC East title and bowl appearance in the last four years, will open their 2010 slate on Saturday, Sept. 4 (7 p.m. ET) against Wofford in Peden Stadium.
