ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University football team placed four players on the 2014 Athlon Sports Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team.
Sophomore defensive lineman Tarell Basham (Rocky Mount, Va.), redshirt junior cornerback Devin Bass (Omaha, Neb.) and senior defensive lineman Antwan Crutcher (Cleveland, Ohio) were each selected First Team, while redshirt senior safety Josh Kristoff (Pickerington, Ohio) was named Third Team.
Basham received First Team honors following an incredible 2013 campaign where he led the team with 7.5 sacks as a true freshman en route to being named to the 13th annual Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team.
Bass earned preseason recognition following a 2013 season where he earned postseason All-MAC honors as both a cornerback and as a kickoff returner. He also paced the squad with 15 pass breakups. In addition, Bass registered 41 tackles.
Crutcher was selected First Team after he posted a single season career-high 50 tackles, including 18 solo stops, six tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Kristoff earned the preseason Third Team nod after he finished second on the team with a single season career-high 72 tackles during his junior year. Earlier this month, he was named captain.
Ohio opens the 2014 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Kent State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN3.
