On the linebacking corps’ performance over the first four days of fall camp:

I really like how the defense is playing right now. It’s good to have the linebackers working together. We’re trying to fight through some injuries, but we’ve been together for a year and a half now, and we’re feeling really comfortable together. A lot of the guys are catching onto the concepts, and I think we’re playing really well.

On the biggest difference between this year’s defense and last year’s unit:

The biggest difference right now is the attitude of the defense. We’re really focusing on forcing turnovers and hustling to the ball. I’m impressed with the way the cornerbacks and safeties are breaking on the ball. The defensive linemen are turning and running 20 yards downfield after the ball, and the pursuit in general has been really great this week. The attitude we’ve adopted on defense is really what’s creating this right now.

On the defense’s focus during the first week of practice:

Our main goal right now is to stop the run. Last year, we gave up too many rushing yards. We’re focusing on playing hard, playing fast and putting in the effort to stop the run.
