ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University football team held its first scrimmage of fall camp Wednesday afternoon at Peden Stadium. The Bobcats' defensive unit limited the offense to just one touchdown as the team took part in 66 live plays in full pads.
Redshirt freshman safety Toran Davis (Lithonia, Ga.) and freshman cornerback Dyquan Stewart (Stafford, Va.) led the way for the defensive unit as they both registered five tackles apiece. Redshirt senior cornerback Jamil Shaw (Alexandria, Va.), redshirt sophomore cornerback Ian Wells (Dayton, Ohio), freshman linebacker Travis Daugherty (Clarksville, Ohio) and freshman linebacker Cody Grilliot (Clayton, Ohio) also chipped in as they each tallied three tackles.
Redshirt senior Nic Barber (Newark, Ohio) and redshirt junior Brandon Atwell (Wythville, Va.) posted strong afternoons on the defensive side of the ball as well. Barber recorded one tackle, a sack and a pass breakup, while Atwell tallied the only interception of the scrimmage.
Offensively for the Bobcats, redshirt sophomore quarterback Derrius Vick (Lincoln, Neb.) had a team-best 79 yards passing. The lone score came when redshirt freshman Greg Windham (Tampa, Fla.) found freshman wide receiver Cedric Brown (Martinsburg, W. Va.) for a six-yard touchdown.
Freshman Dorian Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led all running backs with 37 yards rushing, while fellow Bobcat rookie Justin Wyatt (Lawrenceville, Ga.) led all wide outs with 38 yards receiving.
On special teams, redshirt sophomore kicker Matt Green (Lexington, Ky.) went 3-for-4 on field goals, connecting from 34, 49 and 51 yards out. His only miss was from 46 yards. Redshirt sophomore Devin Bass (Omaha, Neb.) was impressive on kick returns as he had a 37-yard kickoff return.
