Ohio Gets Defensive In Saturday's Scrimmage

ATHENS, Ohio-The Ohio University football squad completed its second scrimmage of the fall Saturday morning at Peden Stadium.


The Bobcats' defensive unit held the upper hand for much of the first half of the action, while the offense punched in a couple of scores during the latter half. The defense posted four sacks, four interceptions and two pass breakups during the morning, while safety Michael Mitchell (Ft. Thomas, Ky.) led the way with six tackles.


Senior quarterback Brad Bower (Burr Ridge, Ill.) tallied 68 passing yards, going 3-10 with a pair of interceptions. Sophomore Theo Scott (Long Beach, Ca.) completed five of nine passes for 25 yards and an interception, while sophomore Brandon Jones threw for 57 yards on 4-11 passing with a pick. Sophomore Josh Febus (Dublin, Ohio) completed four of nine passes for 23 yards, which included a six-yard scoring toss to sophomore running back Joel Scipio (Hilliard, Ohio). Freshman Brian Sweeney (Beaver Falls, Pa.) also dented the scoreboard when he hit freshman wideout Matt Donahue (Fremont, Neb.) for a 36-yard score for his only completion of the day.


Freshman running back Donte Harden (Erie, Pa.) led the Ohio ground attack with eight carries for 48 yards, while Scott posted 18 yards on three carries. Senior Kalvin McRae (Decatur, Ga.) had two carries for eight yards in limited action.


Sophomore Brandon Peterson (Gaithersburg, Md.) had three catches to pace the receiving corps.
