The Ohio Athletics Department has announced an agreement with ESPN to allow the Bobcat football team's season opener at Northwestern to be shown on the Convocation Center video walls. The telecast is being aired on ESPNU, a new network dedicated entirely to college athletics. However, ESPNU is not yet available on many local cable systems, leaving some fans unsure of how to view Coach Frank Solich's
debut game on the Ohio sideline.
"There is so much excitement surrounding Saturday's season opener that we considered it imperative that Bobcat fans here in Athens have the chance to see it live," said Ohio Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. "We are very appreciative of ESPN for allowing us this opportunity, and encourage local community members and students alike to visit the Convo Saturday."
The Convocation Center gates will open at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Admission is free and concession stands will be open. Fans are encouraged to park in Lot 128 outside of the Convocation Center or the Peden Stadium lot.
The Ohio vs Northwestern telecast has also been added to the lineup of available games on ESPN's GamePlan pay-per-view package, available through cable and satellite providers and also now available online.
Season and single-game tickets for Ohio football are available through the Athletics Tickets Office, which has locations at Peden Stadium and the Convocation Center. Orders can be placed over the phone at 1-800-575-CATS or online at Ohiobobcats.com. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, September 9 at 8 p.m. as the Bobcats host Pittsburgh. That game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
