Byrum Nominated for National Player of the Week Awards
National player of the week nominations are in, and the polls are officially open. Bobcat fans can cast their vote for Ohio cornerback Dion Byrum for the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week and the USA Today National Player of the Week. Byrum was nominated after he returned two interceptions for touchdowns, the second of which was an 85-yarder in overtime in the Bobcats' 16-10 win over Pittsburgh.
Byrum is one of four candidates for the All-America Player of the Week, who are selected by a panel of ABC Sports and ESPN college football analysts. The other finalists are: Texas quarterback Vince Young, who passed for 270 yards and two touchdowns in the Longhorns' 25-22 victory over Ohio State; Northwestern running back Tyrell Sutton, who rushed for 207 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcats' 38-37 victory over Northern Illinois; and University of California wide receiver Robert Jordan, who had 11 receptions for 193 yards and three touchdowns in the Golden Bears' 56-17 win over University of Washington. Who will be this week's winner now rests solely in the hands of college football fans nationwide. Fans have until Wednesday, September 14 at 11:59 p.m. EST to submit their votes via wireless text messaging. The winner will be announced September 15 in the first half of the ESPN Thursday Night College Football Game between University of Utah and TCU.
